Parsonage lies in the Exmoor National Park above a loop in the River Barle between Hawkridge and Withypool. Its 120 acres straddle the Two Moors Way, just by the popular ancient monument of Tarr Steps. Approached from the public road by a rural track through the South Barton beech woods, it rises from seven hundred feet by the stream that marks its southern boundary to twelve hundred above sea level on its highest field. Spectacular views are to be had of the moor at Dunkery in the north and down the Barle Valley to the south.
We run a fairly representative hill livestock farm with commercial herds of beef cattle and sheep and champion rare breeds where they can be commercial. We have the sixth largest herd of Gloucester Cattle, a medium sized flock of Greyface Dartmoor sheep, and Berkshire pigs. A small apiary supplies honey for breakfast and beeswax for our own range of cosmetics and polishes.
